Latest update: Girl I was after recently became single, but our schedules rarely line up so I haven't had a lot of time to talk to her. Then I discover that she's hooked up with a guy I know who is an absolute dickhead and I don't understand why anyone would ever want to date him.

this is the usual response i get to these types of situations, and i would likely agree if this didn't happen to most every girl i'm interested in. i think it's just that women in general must be attracted to dickheads. that's the only conclusion i am able to come to.

This is definitely true.
During highschool, it was almost all that I focused on and I ended up trying too hard and not getting what I wanted, which made me feel like shit. What I'm doing now is just becoming friends with girls for the sake of being friends, and who knows, something might develop further, but I'm happy just having people I can hang out with.
