by the time the credits were rolling i realized it was sort of like earthbound in that it's really not that funny, but despite that it's sort of 'poignant' in its own strange way.

Some of the scenes are funny because they are almost too absurd.
There's the muted reaction from vince and Jules when that one guy's head gets blown off in the car accidently. Their reactions are not normal or what you'd expect, but in the context of their characters it is.

because we were making fun of the movie?

i mean, yeah there are certain moments in the movie that i will admit are funny, particularly some of the dialogue, and just the outrageousness of some of the situations, but overall it's not an overtly funny movie and it's not supposed to be

yes, exactly - it's the almost too absurd that makes it funny, and that includes the dialogue
