Go Down

Classic

That's exactly what happened this last time my computer was down.
You'll need to wipe everything and reinstall the OS. IT IS THE ONLY WAY.

It's possible to fix without re-installing the OS but re-installing may be the easiest method (We generally do that at work to clean up viruses and OS errors since it only takes half an hour)

Assuming the installation discs don't include the shitware from Best Buy and HP.

Unless he had the problem from the beginning I wouldn't suggest a re-install yet.

Wrench: try to download and install this:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

If that doesn't work try CCleaner

oh also are you using 64-bit or 32-bit edition? conversely which editions of the programs are you running?

Minus;

None of my HP Bloatware has caused problems such as that.
It could be a problem with windows itself. Just hope it isn't a hardware problem.

Wrench

Safe Mode didn't do anything. Problems still there.

This started about 3 weeks ago.

I'll download right now and hope for the best.

64 bit edition

Thanks for all the responses guys. I hope it works.

I don't know how to.

Geeksquad left me 3 burned discs labeled HP 1-3, 2-3, and 3-3

I put them in and nothing happens. I can look at random files :|

try leaving in 1-3 and restart
Do you boot off of the disc? Do you not boot normally? Do you get a prompt?

I think those discs are the installations discs.

It didn't do anything at all when I rebooted.

They might be, but the discs are called RECOVERY13 or whatever their number is.

This might help : http://www.pctechbytes.com/hp/hp-system-recovery-in-windows-7

This should restore your computer to the way it was out-of-the-box. I think this should work.

I don't know if your HP laptop is the same as mine. But they have a recovery partition and then a CD with more recovery items.
Basically when you reinstall windows only install the necessary items like the drivers, and whatever other software you see as necessary. Get rid of all the bloatware. And also do you have a windows reinstallation disc?

It was worth upgrading Vista to Windows 7 again.

No problem man.

idk why the CD didn't work but whatever as long as it works now

btw try not to lose those recovery discs you're apparently only allowed to burn them once though you might be able to re-burn since you reinstalled everything, but just to be on the safe side ;)
