Pretty much, yes. Besides Nether travel. You can still set a server to only Nether or only the world. However, you cant get working portals since they are two separate maps.

At least there's a /give command for ops so if there's something you want from the nether, you can just magic it up.

I've been playing on a shitty server and we've been regenerating the map every couple of days. The place is a fucking creeper mess. EVERYWHERE CREEPERS. You LOOK at them and they explode! The terrain looks like the goddamned moon because their explosions pushed out all the dirt from everywhere!

I've been successful in making a lot of good houses though. And in one save, I made a 3x3 hole to the bedrock to jump down into from this really tall tower. Wearing leather armor? I survive easily.

You'll need to make a new map I think. Old maps don't generate new blocks in already generated areas, same with new mobs.
