So today at work I was going door to door as usual when I met this really eccentric guy... He wasn't really interested in anything I was selling since he worked in construction, but it turns out he's from Wisconsin so we got to talking. Basically he was telling me how horrible my area is and how I should stay out in Wisconsin later in life... I told him some stuff about my experiences there, that I was going for political science, and that I loved Madison. Eventually I left to go back to working and after about 15 minutes he pulls up beside me in his car and asks how much I make in commission... I told him $40 for each sale. He told me I shouldn't be working a job like this since I'm such a nice guy and then handed me 40 bucks. He said that next summer I should contact him and his son could give me a job scrubbing boats down in Baltimore for some nice pay, and went on to say that after I graduated he knows some people down in Baltimore and Washington that could help a guy with a Political Science degree. He wanted my phone number and address so he could get in contact with me, but I kind of wriggled out of that question... Anyway what do you make of this guy? I'm sort of confused as to why he's giving me money and offering me all this stuff... Maybe he's just that nice but does it seem to anyone else like there would be an ulterior motive behind this? huhdoodame;

My job's a little weird, but it's in the landscaping/lumberyard/delivery receiving section of a retail department store. It's pretty varied, from loading customers up with product (lumber,stone, etc) to unloading flatbeds via forklift to assembling deliveries and working on a two man delivery run.

We work a lot with some consistent contracting firms as well as some simple big buyers who often use the store as a means to supply their projects. When working directly with some of these customers, loading vehicles or whatever, you really have no choice but to put on a decent face and make some conversation and maybe even try to make a bigger sale. Bottom line is making them happy enough to come back and tell their friends they had a decent experience. Whatever.

One instance, I was loading up a trailer for a guy who was a pretty common customer. I'd worked with him before and he'd actually asked for me by name. We got to talking a little more and I somehow touched on how my buddy had just been laid off and was looking for work. He made some remark as if he had some opening or something and he asked for his phone number and information and shit, so I just gave it to him.  Looking for a "hard worker" and apparently trusted me vouching for him and such. My friend got a call from him and ended up getting the job and is now making more than me.

As far as the other side goes, there was one particular guy that stands out. He would come in and pick up small quantities of simple building supplies. A few 2x4's here and there. Nothing big, but he was consistently in there every week at least once. Never really thought much of it. He'd ask for help occasionally, but usually just went on his way. One day, he's in there picking up some concrete block and he mentions offhand to me about one of the receptionists up front, how she looks familiar or something. He goes on to describe her and I realize he's talking about Callie, a pretty good friend of mine who often works similar shifts to me. He keeps going on as to how he knows her from somewhere and actually asks me if I know her phone number or address or anything. Kind of gave me the vibe right there that something wasn't right. Callie's only about twenty years old while this guy had to be cresting forty five. I pretended I didn't know her information and went on to finish loading his vehicle.

Just after nine, closing time, I was walking to my car with Callie following some distance behind me to the parking lot. I looked over and noticed another vehicle sitting just outside the lot on the road. That creep was just sitting in his fucking car, some shitkicking oldsmobile, waiting. I ran up to her and told her what was up, what the dude had said to me that afternoon and she looked over and recognized him. Said the guy was in there all the time, always  blah blah. She said she'd keep an eye out and give me a call if anything came up. I pulled out in front of her and she followed me and as we turned the corner, I noticed his headlights turn on and his car begin to move. So I call her up and told her to follow me to a nearby grocery store. We parked and watched him do the same, on the other side of the lot. We went in, walked around a bit, and went back out. Still there. So we drove another few miles to a restaurant where my cousin was working. Sure enough, the bastard followed again.  Told my cousin what was up and he said he'd call the cops for us and shit and made a point of going out the lot with us so the guy could see. We made gestures his way, pointing him out, taking down the plates and the like. We went back in and waited for the fuzz to arrive. About ten minutes later, he does, with our stalker absent from the lot.

We posted shit at work about it the next day, and I haven't seen him since.
