Recently I've been sad with myself because I'll go weeks without picking up a sax or working on some design project.

I decided to remedy this and have been spending 45-90 minutes a day playing sax, and it's had a noticeable affect on me (I forgot how intensely fun it is)

So do you tend to lose habits or keep good ones?

I try not to waste all my god damn money on video games I don't play. If i actively try I can go like maybe a week, until I see one really damn good deal and it breaks open the flood gates.

I'm the same way with my guitar.

I just set my reed holder on my desk to nag myself about doing it, I always feel like I need to be jamming or consciously writing something to practice but within 2-3 minutes of just picking it up and playing I always find a unique groove.

??????

sometimes i'd paint until i become tired (obsessively fun) and not continue it the next day

it saddens me

How long have you been playing sax for? I recently broke my guitar and I have had such an urge to play, it feels unusual.

I started in my elementary school band, got quite dedicated to it in early high school (owned several saxes at one point, buying and selling different kinds), and then got into the rut until recently. I sold all but my favorite/best tenor and mouthpieces for it, which I'm very happy about now... if I get some extra money I'd like to find a vintage silver bari.

I'll go for weeks at a time doing push ups and sit ups every night, but then if I take any sort of time off I'll fall out of the habit for a good while

I thought of obvious ones:

Kind of the opposite idea but I'm inconsistent with gauging tobacco usage, the good habit would be not building nicotine dependance and sometimes it goes away for several days

Until about May I was slightly concerned for my insomniac health, throughout fall and winter I just didn't sleep much (0-3 hours/night) but now I've begun to rebuild the process of going to bed and constructing days consistently.

This is more or less one of those things I was combating for a while. I'm not a smoker by any means, but I started getting kind of habitual for a while. I used to buy a pack primarily for when I went out to parties or the bar but I'd find myself smoking the remaining pieces throughout the week after work days. Soon it was lunch breaks and driving. So for a while I stopped altogether.

Now if I do buy a pack for a party, say, I'll bum off as many as I possibly can.
I'm terrified of the prospect of dependency of any sort.
