For the latter, I'd go for Orb.

Is there any linux utility since i have my videos on my desktop, though i can just mount the ftp connection on my mac and stream it from that

From what I know, you install the software on your computer give it access to your media, and then you log into your account on their website via the Wii Internet Channel, and it will stream the content off your computer.

Yeah, it does it over the internet and i need it to work over lan.
