Any breakup that does not create closure is a failure, I think. The point is that things are ended, over, done, that we can go on with our lives without having to define ourselves by the other, that we don't have to have any pretenses about how much we care about each other. Anything other than that ends nothing, and just extenuates drama, and thus pain.
