Pet peeves, nerd style. Things that piss you off because of how nerdy you are about something.

Mine: when people erroneously quote Shakespeare by getting the quote wrong, using it incorrectly, not knowing what it means, etc.

Prime example is how people quote "now is the winter of our discontent" (first line of Richard III) without understanding that it is a happy phrase, in which Richard of Gloucester is basically saying "all's good in the neighborhood" rather than complaining. People seem to use this phrase as if it's a way to say "well shit, things couldn't get any worse" when in fact it is totally the opposite.

I'm sort of a college football nerd... I don't know if that counts, but if people confuse the NFL rules with the NCAA ones then I am driven mad to no end akudood;

And of course, being actually nerdy, the whole "you're," "your," "there," "they're," "their," "whose," "who's" type thing.

Ah. I didn't know about that quote. I'll admit it took me a bit to figure out "oh right winter is the end so it's the end of their discontent". maps;

Also, lol oxford comma.

In French we learn not to use those. maps;

I tend not to use serial commas (nor do I call them Oxford commas), as my whole approach to writing is "less is more" and introducing wholly unnecessary punctuation seems, of course, unnecessary. I realize that they sometimes lessen ambiguity, but they also equally increase it at times, so I just go with my gut and leave them out.

What's an oxford comma?

When you include a comma before words like 'and' in a list.  Personally I think it looks ugly, so I do not use it.

Lack of an oxford comma in a sentence absolutely destroys the flow of said sentence, imo.
