Gay marriage is banned in most of the US because most US citizens don't want gay marriage.
Then why does the Mormon church feel the need to spend millions fighting it?

Most bans are not the result of votes and the few bans that are, are all in highly religious southern states.

i.e. they're forcing their religious values on those who aren't of that religion.

Or because they have moral values that they strongly value. Should I call you uneducated and close-minded for your set of moral beliefs?

I agree that religion should be kept out of the government for the most part, but I do find it odd that legislators aren't supposed to call upon their moral code when voting. Your morals are part of who you are and how you believe the world should behave, so they naturally are going to influence how you vote.

I'm not saying gay marriage should be banned. I was just explaining why it is. I don't like gay marriage, but I don't think that gay couples should be denied the benefits that heterosexual couples get through marriage.

Then they don't need to get a gay marriage.

Their "moral values" come from their religion. Therefore they are imposing their religious values upon others.

Buddhism allows same sex marriage
As do some sects of Hinduism
Paganism, Wicca, New-ageystuff, all of that allow it.
Of course Atheism, being a lack of religion, allows it.
Universalists allow it
Not even all Christian sects oppose same sex marriage.

There are no "moral values", but rather "imposed religious values" involved.

White southerners in the first 200 years of the country had moral values that included enslaving people for their race, beating them, lynching them,  and segregating them.

Surely that bigotry should be tolerated since it's "moral values". I'd say that is even more tolerable than opposing same sex marriage though because the racism(though it seems slavery was justified by some using the bible) didn't have the excuse of "God says they're an abomination."

I didn't say that it's okay, just that it's generally how things work. Tons of ignorant racists supported slavery for centuries and therefore slavery was law. It wasn't until the South broke away from the Union and the Civil War started that we had a chance to end slavery. Lincoln wasn't even interested in ending slavery as much as he was preserving the Union, but towards the end of the war it made perfect sense as a tactical move.

Truth.

Veal

Guys it's okay if you don't believe in God or whatever and if doing so makes you feel like more of an individual and like you have more control over life. I mean I totally respect that. Just keep your atheistic morals and beliefs out of our government.

catholic school.
There. They seem to actually teach things

Catholic retardation only seems to come from sex related things (Condoms/Birth Control/Abortion/Gays/Little Boys) and not bombarding people with bigotry and annoying statuses.
