The advantages of a mac for a normal person

I spent a few hours messing around on my friend's macbook a few weekends ago and I loved it. Everything was so smooth and sexy and it just felt perfect. I understand that they are good pieces of hardware, since every other member of Boyah seems to have one now, so I've decided to start saving for one (shouldn't take too long). I was my friend was giving me the generic "PCs are better for gaming, macs can't run any applications blah blah blah" speech and I really didn't know what to say back, since I really don't know why macs are better than PCs.

Macs can run games fine.

If anything, it's lazy developers who can't take 5 minutes to compile their games for Linux and OS X. To fix that you can just run the games under crossover/wine, or dual boot Windows. I don't since I don't play games, and the few I do rarely play all run on OS X.

As for other applications, did he name any, because I've never had a problem finding any software I need.

A stable and relatively safe operating system. If you're on the computer for more than an hour a week, a Macintosh will save you loads of time and effort.

No operating system has "exclusive" features as you'd also have to factor in the hundreds of linux distributions which all will end up having one of the features. It's the combination and execution of the features.

OS X has the stability and security attributed to Unix systems, yet the commercial software support that Windows has.

It also does it in a sleek effective way.

the single biggest/best features I can think of for os x and why I like it are:

- security. you'll probably be surprised how convenient it is to never think about viruses, malware, etc... go to all the sketchy porn and serial number and whatever else sites you want, download shit recklessly

- safari. it has a windows version but the os x version runs MUCH better (and consumes less resources), never crashes, and is still the fastest browser if I'm not mistaken

- UI features. stuff like hot corners and their functions (show desktop, exposé, dashboard, show all windows of one app), plus spaces and finder, are things I can hardly use a computer without. when I use windows and have to minimize shit to get it out of the way I say "what the fuck. that is incredibly inconvenient and unpleasing"

- apps. everything you want to do on a pc, there's an app for it on os x, except it's much better than the windows equivalent  (also say goodbye to wading through infinite shareware apps looking for one that actually works)

also i still go through my share of bad shareware apps on mac os x tbh so i don't understand how this point is remotely cogent

still use a mac (2 actually) for my work environment due to security and stability
