In this thread, we suggest music to eachother - not necessarily suggestions to a specific poster, but suggestions to anyone in general. Post an album that you don't think very many people here would know, and explain what kind of music it is. Feel free to mention, really, anything - a single, an album, or a band in general. This could be an effective way of sharing music.

I'll throw out what I'm listening to right now, the Gilded Palace of Sin by the Flying Burrito Brothers.

The album is a cross between country and rock. The Burrito Bros are a somewhat forgotten band, but they were very important pioneers of country-rock. If you've heard the Rolling Stones's ventures into country (ie, Wild Horses, Dead Flowers) and liked them, you'll probably enjoy this album.

Well i spent about 5 minutes typing a list of bands, but it logged me out, so I'll just say Midlake's The Trials of Van Occupanther.

St. Vincent kind of pisses me off except Human Racing

I will recommend this to everyone who likes rock of the past two decades at all:

Engineers - Three Fact Fader

my favorite album of the past few weeks

Samus Aran

Recently I've been really enjoying some bands I'd never heard of until recently (for some of these bands, "recently" is like months ago)

Built to Spill, Cows, Black Mountain, Jesse Sykes, Self-Evident, Spoon, Silver Jews, Belle and Sebastian, Sleater-Kinney, Walt Mink, Bellwether, Bill Dankert...some of these bands are home-grown in Minneapolis, and some of them are really only locally known.

Here's some samples:

Could only find live versions of my favorite Built to Spill song...the vocals aren't as good as in the studio version, I urge you guys to check out the real deal.
Possibly my favorite Belle and Sebastian song...these guys are quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
Is dat sum Black Sabbath influence?
The Hand That Fisted Everyone

Local Native.

Somesort of indie band I heard while listening to xmU.

They do a fantastic cover of Talking Heads's Warning Sign.

Black Moth Super Rainbow. Psych-pop group that everybody who hears likes, and nobody has ever heard of.

Future of the Left. High energy rock/indie/punk/fuckyou group that was a reaction to all sorts of effeminate indie music budding in the early 00's.

Arnold Schoeberg. Classical composer who reconciled classical music themes while saying "FUCK YOU" at the same time to everyone. Early-mid stuff is palateable, Entwarwung is the sexiest thing alive.

Venetian Snares. The glorious sound of one man shitting on his laptop.

Infected Mushroom, the only trance I've ever liked.

This Is My Fist! Very good punk group.

Algernon Cadwallader. A friend's friend's friend's band, just got signed to no idea. If you like Latterman (also awesome), you'll love this.

Here's some damn good shit I found: The XX.

The XX - XX

I don't believe the genre can be accurately described... it falls somewhere between punk, electronic, emo, indie, and 80s alternative rock. Like Rihanna + The Pixies, or something like that. Except it's slow and melodic uses sampled beats with a male and female vocalist, guitar, and bass.

I doubt you're accurately picturing it so listen to "Islands" and "Infinity" on iTunes.

I tried this band, but I didn't really like it much. "Psych-pop" is a term that gets me excited, but I didn't really like what I heard.

Damn, my perfect record.  >.<

Some of the albums are hit-or-miss. Dandelion Gum is the same song a bunch of time, while Start A People and Falling Through a Field are varied and much more intense.

I get tired of the vocoding very quick.

I did have a chance to see them live. Kind of spur of the moment. Wasn't a huge fan or anything, but a free ticket's a free ticket.

Very good live though. Fun an vibrant.

Same thoughts as coz on Black Moth Super Rainbow... I downloaded all their albums awhile ago and pretty much all of it sounded like garbage.

Samus Aran

Snorkie, do you like any of the Minneapolis bands I posted? Cows, Bellwether, Bill Dankert, etc.?

And I remember you like Hockey Night because you commented on their page on last.fm.
