Yeah, so I'm interested in learning a bit of web design without having to pay a bundle for classes or videos or whatever. I've tried to learn HTML a couple of times, but it seems like most websites with HTML tutorials are really dull and haven't taught me how to actually make a half-decent site. Does anyone have a suggestion about where I can find some quality web design tutorials for free?

Library and get some books, that's what I did.

But I've been lazy about reading them lol.

For actual back-end coding, just set out to make something specific and copy other sites' code and learn how it works, then modify it to do what you want, etc. Just get lots of experience putting pieces of code together and you'll pick it up eventually, that's how I learned.

Design is an entirely different school of thought involving art as well as coding skills, so if you're not proficient in Photoshop I'd suggest learning that too... here's some sites to look at

psdtuts.com (and the whole tuts+ network)
sixrevisions.com
smashingmagazine.com

Learn Python and use Django or learn Ruby and use Rails.
