how do americans know where everystate is?

like i'm playing some game and you have to make a map or something of the states.
and i've got like three right.
it's terrible.

Because I live here and know my geography. I could probably place all the canadian territories and provinces as well.

I can never remember which one is Manitoba and which one is Alberta. maps;

Trust me, most Americans don't know where every state is off the top of their head, because it's easy to mix up some of the locations of the really small northeastern states if you hardly ever look at a map or you've never lived/been to the northeast.

I'm fairly confident I could get them all in their right locations, but I doubt I'm in a majority in that regard.

in my opinion all the ones i circled in red should be considered one state.
AND.
i didn't know pensylvania was that high up.
i thought it was by texas.

Most Americans don't know where states are, I wouldn't be surprised if some couldn't even name all fifty.  And then there are the idiots who either include Washington, DC or Puerto Rico as a state.

I can name about 47 of the states easily and put them on a map, as well as the Canadian and Australian provinces/states.

all of the irrelevant western states that are all shaped the same are the hard ones
