Of course the caste system is terrible but that's like saying Christianity is bad because of slavery... The Indian people have their problems - everybody does - but Hinduism (in it's pure form) is really amazing. I don't see how the reverence of "random" animals is retarded. Or why it matters if it is. I am not a devout follower of Hinduism and I don't agree with everything that they do or everything that is apart of the religion (reason why I would not consider myself "Hindu") but there many aspects of the religion I can appreciate.

If there was no caste system, Hinduism would not exist, because the point of reincarnation -- which is arguably the theme that the faith hinges on -- is to ascend the ladder of castes. It's more like saying Christianity is bad because of the Bible... which is also true.

I'm glad you're not a devout Hindu, I'm just amazed someone could call themselves atheist/nontheistic but find Hinduism, of all religions, acceptable.

I guess that's true. I actually hadn't thought about it that way at all.

Be amazed? Read the scripture, it's really special and beautiful. The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most incredible things I have ever read. And that's all that I've really said. There are some things about it I really love but I understand what you're saying.
