So what changes in the new version?
It's supposed to be faster and there's custom scripts (ie greasemonkey)
Other than that I'm not sure.
Really seems more like a 1.5

They added the ability to scroll through a page by clicking the scroll wheel like most Windows programmes, it's faster at loading Javascript I believe and if you drag a tab to the right of the window until you see a little book icon you can use side-by-side view comparison mode.  http://chrome.blogspot.com/

So what is the difference between Firefox and Chrome?
everything

Firefox: Made by Mozilla
Chrome: Made by Google

Firefox: Uses the Gecko layout engine.
Chrome: Uses the Webkit layout engine

Firefox: Uses Spidermonkey (Tracemonkey sometime this year, might be in current builds.) javascript engine
Chrome: Users the V8 javascript Engine.

chrome uses sandboxes and such and runs each tab in its own process. firefox doesn't. etc.
