Many denominations actually believe that it is necessary to baptize to "save" someone, but at the same time, the Bible doesn't seem to say that it's necessary (not that I've noticed), and of course the Bible says that children in particular don't need saving anyway. Other denominations simply see it as a symbol of death and rebirth or immersion in Christ, or a simple cleansing, or even just a way to become a full church member, but do not see it as a way to be saved, rather stating that the only way to be saved is to pray for Jesus to enter your heart, forgive you of your sins, etc. and of course for you to maintain that faith consistently.
