The map thread inspired me to make this topic.
So have any of you met anybody that you knew online? What was it like?

I met up with somebody that I met on nsider over new years. We've talked on msn almost everyday in the last year, and I was vacationing in portland where he resides, so we decided to meet up. My friend Eric (he registered here as, "marsipan" and had less than 100 posts so i doubt anybody remembers him) was with me, incase he turned out to be some pedo or something. So we met up in some mall and it was really awkward at first. I had nothing to talk about at all, since everything worth talking about, we had already discussed over msn. My friend helped break the ice but it was still weird.

Also all of you should come to PAX this year so we can hang out  bassir;

Well, I've met two people that I met online, both of whom are users here. Hensa and :atomsk:. The latter is the former's friend and we met him at a Wal-Mart in Boerne.

Obviously, meeting Hensa face-to-face for the first time was an amazing experience, and I doubt I'll ever really forget it.

I have never met anyone I knew online.

There is a very strong possibility of me meeting Lotos in May when I go back to my hometown, seeing as how I live in the same school district as him. Who knows?

I haven't met anyone from the internet and I don't plan on doing it any time soon, or ever.

although visiting zidone would be cool but he says he'd never leave his damn house so i could never see the negro

Well, there are two people that I met online before I met in real life, but I knew them because of another friend I have in the first place so it's not really like there was no existing offline connection.
One of those two goes to my current school. I didn't know that at first and when we found out she was like 'hey let's meet each other tomorrow morning in the 280 hallway'. The other convinced me to visit her house (only ~10min drive away from me) with a few other friends of hers at like a mini-party one day last May, but that's the only time I've really met her in real life.
Other than that, the most offline connection I've done with anybody I know online was calling Hensa on the phone.

This.

Although, if I had to meet one person, it would be you, Lawlz. Oh, just imagine the insightful conversations we would have late into the night. It would be quite the meeting of the minds. <3

I was at a bar, and I guess I was super drunk or something cuz some girl came up to me and asked me what was wrong and I was just like "eh, I'm fine, really," and we got talking and shit.  My boyfriend came over and I introduced him to my new friend and her husband.  Turns out her husband knew my boyfriend through fucking WoW.  Random as hell, eh?

Veal

somebody from Nsider/Classysider twice at concerts, and again at the midnight IMAX showing of Watchmen coming up.

It's kind of awkward at first, but after that it's just like talking with someone you've been friends with for a while.

don't let's

I would never do that and I don't have any desire to do that either. Also if somebody I know in real life happened to make their way to one of these forums I would most likely delete my account and never come back.
