I'm guessing he tricked the other guy by making him try to see the ugliness, which he ultimately did, and took the girlfriend as his own.

The picture on the driver's license is a very popular optical illusion of a harmless woman and a hideous witch.



You can see a young woman or an old witch. If you only see young woman, look at her ear, and think of it as an eye, and look at the face and neck as a whole, look at her chin as a nose. If you only see the old witch, look at the nose and think of the pimple as a nose of a woman turned almost 180° away and the eye as an ear tucked behind the hair, and look at the nose as beautifully formed chin.

When you notice both, you can't un-see it.
