A basketball star covers 2.55 m horizontally in a jump to dunk the ball. His motion through space can be modeled as that of a particle at a point called his center of mass. His center of mass is at elevation 1.02 m when he leaves the floor. It reaches a maximum height of 1.85 m above the floor and is at elevation 0.890 m when he touches down again

(a) Determine his time of flight (his "hang time").

(b) Determine his horizontal velocity at takeoff.

(c) Determine his vertical velocity at takeoff.

(d) Determine his takeoff angle.

Now try to duplicate it.

This is one of my Phsyics problems. I'm doing good so far. I'm answering the last question now:

(e) For comparison, determine the hang time of a whitetail deer making a jump with center-of-mass elevations yi = 1.20 m, ymax = 2.60 m, and yf = 0.680 m.

Oh, this makes me feel dumb. I know I could have done this problem easy at some point, but I haven't taken a math or physics course in over a year, so I'm super rusty. I'm completely stumped.
You take the max velocity as your initial velocity (zero) and relate it to kinematic equation so you can find the time.

Thats how I started it.

In my physics class all we do is play catch

I can't even begin to describe how much I hate physics.

Lucky.  All we do is math.  I thought this would be easy math like Chem :(

Yeah I hate it like hell because it's so many manipulations that errors are going to be all over the place.

Same here. I actually dropped Physics in high school so I could focus on Calculus.

I'm sticking with it because it makes me feel proud of myself.

One of only 15 people in a school of 1800 that's man enough to do it. spam;

I was man enough to do it, but I just didn't really want to. It was just an annoyance. I stuck with it for a full semester before I got sick of it enough to just quit.
