i'm not sure why, it wasn't tasty for my ears--but i did greatly enjoy it when someone else read it to me

reading What is The What by that guy that did mcsweeney's. His name is on the tip of my tongue goddamnit.

At any rate, I'm only about hundred pages in but I'm digging it. The story of a Sudanese immigrant who was part of "The Lost Boys of Sudan". Dave Eggers is the authors name. Holy moly can this guy get you emotionally invested really quick. The book is classified as fiction, but Eggers was told the story of this guy, by this guy. So it's an oral autobiography that Eggers transformed into a novel (or a biography)

It's nice to come back to fiction after working on that Miyamoto Musashi book for awhile and hitting a wall with it. I think if I finish What is the What I can make some more progress with The Book of Five Rings, which is a good read but somewhat dry when you get into the specifics of swordsmanship.

reading How Music Works by David Byrne. really cool. lots of observations and essays about creating/recording/selling music. also some parts read like a memoir. on the chapter about how technology shaped compositions and songs.

finished How Music Workds last month. Good read and has some interesting information about how some record sales get broken down etc. etc. Some chapters were too short (the one about "making a scene" was kind of bullshit, and he blew through a lot of his talking heads recording stuff but it wasn't a biography so whatever)

also finished What is The What, which was a really satisfiying book.

also finished Kingdom of Fear. I liked it but not as much as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I got confused in some parts because he jumps around occasionally. but I think that's the goal of GONZO JOURNALISM.

ALSO finished The Wonderful Wizard of Oz which was a good palate cleanser after reading books about the music industry, the trek of a genocide survivor, and thompson's tales of working in porno theater.


Currently reading The Three Christs of Yppsilanti, which is about these three guys in a mental institution who think they are each jesus christ.
