There was a comment on the WordPress homepage with all sorts of weird code shit.  It looks like that caused the problem because once I deleted that things the database errors went away and I was able to get the forum into maintenance mode. 

Now to check WordPress for any possible SQL Injections; oh boy this will be fun.
