It was September 20, 1977. The Socalist Republic of Vietnam is accepted into the United Nations. Voyager 2 is launched for fly-by of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. A brief moment that would eclipse all of these in sheer importance would air on primetime ABC... That's right...

Fonzie jumped a shark.

In this thread, I'll be covering the many memorable jump the shark moments from your favorite shows. How can we forget that moment from that show or that moment from this show? I'll be googling them thoroughly. Let's begin with the numerous moments that led to the ultimate jumping the shark moment of all time...

The Simpsons

This isn't a picture from the literal moment when the Simpsons jumped the shakr. That would be too easy to define a simple jump the shark moment for the Simpsons. It was just things that built up from season to season that led to the show's downfall. Let me just first state that I don't hate any of the episodes I'm going to mention because most of them are from the Golden Age and I love them so. Especially the first one.

Let's start off with the beginning moment that I think eventually led the show down it's slippery slope way back in Season 4. Marge VS The Monorail is a great episode and it's outlandish plot with it's ridiculous moments such as Leonard Nemoy teleporting all work in the episode. Unfortunately, I think it became a blueprint for how ridiculous the show would later get. It set a dangerous precedent for the show.

Another Conan episode that I would say contributed to the show's downfall is Homer Goes To College. The problem with the episode is how Homer is dangerously stupid through it. He runs over the Dean and sets the house on fire. Like I stated before in Marge VS The Monorail, it would set a precedent for the show in the future on how stupid Homer could be and it also would set up how big of an asshole he would become later on.

Another notable episode is Deep Space Homer. The only reason it's here is for the fact that Homer goes into space. While the show has never been truly realistic, going into space is kind of odd even by the show's logic. Another truly odd episode is Two Bad Neighbors for creating another house out of nowhere on Evergreen Terrace. Not to mention, George Bush moving in and Gerald Ford moving after George Bush moves out.

A big turning point for the Simpsons would be Homer's Enemy where Springfield becomes detached from reality and becomes it's own little world basically. Frank Grimes enters Springfield and is ultimately destroyed. This also marks where Homer's stupidity from Homer Goes To College goes up to eleven. Homer also briefly becomes the asshole he would later be in the series when he takes a nap during Grimes's funeral. It's a good, funny episode but this is the first episode where you can say that something was amiss with the Simpsons. Another moment only a few episodes ahead, Homer VS The City of New York is the beginning of the formula where the Simpsons travel to famous places and stuff happens.

The Principal and the Pauper is another big turning point for the show. The episode throws out everything we've known and loved about Principal Skinner into the trash but, in the end, we're supposed to reset and forget everything that's happened as we send the true Skinner (Who was not a bad guy at all, by the way) down the tracks tied to the a track car going out of the city. The episode just takes a chunk of the show's humanity out and further reinforces the idea that Homer's Enemy makes that Springfield isn't part of reality.

Season 10 is where the show finally jumps that proveribal shark. After so many little and big moments building up throughout the series, it just reached it's limit. I don't hate any of these episodes mentioned (The sole exception being The Prinicipal and the Pauper which I do hate). Most of them just inadvertly led to the show putting on the skis and a leather jacket to beat that asshole who wouldn't stop talking shit about the Fonz. And that's the end of that chapter.

The Point of No Return: Homer gets raped by a panda.

No because Bart VS Australia had a legitimate story to go with it and it wasn't entirely centered around Australia jokes. The US satire took the main stage.
