Socks Joined The Military Today (OFFICIALLY)

So I went in to see my recruiter today Sgt. Ocasio and basically I signed up. He gave me some background information and then some specific information on my best suited jobs within the military. He gave me an aptitude test and I best qualified for Special Forces and Military Intelligence (I was very excited at this point). Then he gave me a sample ASVAB test to see my general knowledge in Writing Comprehension, Reasoning, Science and Math, I got an 85 which impressed him. I then inquired about the Special Forces and he told me I should peruse Military Intelligence since I'm "smart", can speak another language and suited for it. It would also give me a higher rank, more pay, more benefits and a Top Secret clearance.

So I filled a shit load of documents, answered a shit load of questions and I just needs to hand him some more stuff tomorrow, take the drug test and I could leave as soon as Sunday for MEPS. MEPS is a center where they do your full physical, give you the full ASVAB test, swear you in etc... Sunday he'll take me to a hotel near my assigned MEPS station, all expenses paid, I guess I just chill there for one day doing nothing... Monday I would go into the MEPS, stay one night and be ready to ship out as early as Wednesday for Fort Benning, Georgia to being my basic training.

Oh yeah, I'll get around 6o,ooo Dollars as a sign up bonus, 3o days payed vacation a year anywhere in the world, free transportation, a shit load of money for college, free life family health care, a 5oo,ooo - 1,ooo,ooo retirement fund/plan, 5oo,ooo life insurance plan, free college courses. And other indirect training, experience for when I leave so that I could just about walk on to become a Pennsylvania State Trooper or apply for a job with the FBI, ATF, ICE, DOE etc...

Now just to tell my parents, this wont be pretty...

Sounds pretty awesome. If you're happy with the field you're entering, are excited about the whole thing, and are getting all that you mentioned, you cut a good deal in my opinion.

If I don't get accepted to college I will join the military. I have no fear for my life and would be happy to honor my country. As well as the benefits.

So for four years I get a 6o,ooo sign up bonus, an eventual rank of E-5 and a yearly salary for personal expenses and housing around 4o,ooo a year. I pay no taxes and if I live off base during my time I also pay no money for the housing, utility or transportation.

And if you get married while in the military it's free of charge.
