It is unusual, there was a show on NOVA some time ago which did a study on human sexuality. They told a male and a female subject, ages 5-18, to walk up towards one another and stop at whatever distance they felt comfortable. The findings showed that the younger the age the bigger the distance was between the two.

Oh, I dunno, younger kids do some pretty weird things together sometimes. My sisters used to play "wedding" and kiss each other.

But yeah, I had similar things happen in kindergarten too, although that was due entirely to this gang of girls that started a "kissing club." Their mission was apparently to capture poor, defenseless boys and hold them down while one other girl plasters him with kisses. I fell prey to this diabolical scheme twice.
