I guess just follow the link to friendcodes.com and read that post, but I'm banned there and didn't feel like going on a proxy to see it.

Anyway, wtf. I don't see any reason that nintendo would do this unless nsider is coming back and they want their fanbase coming back. I don't get it.

In short: Nintendo is trying to shut down friendcodes.com because they say they own the phrases friendcode, friendcodes, friend code, and friend codes. doodthing;

Then again, look at today's date.

Then look at what day Tuesday will be.

"Uhhh... April Fools?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sorry, I have to end this now. This got way out of hand. What began as an elaborate prank on our moderation team has snowballed into quite the internet sensation.

This was never supposed to get on digg, and it was never supposed to be taken as seriously as it was.

Here comes the public apology...

I, on behalf of the entire friendcodes.com administration team, would like to apologize first and foremost to Nintendo for all of the hate that was sent your way. We are all Nintendo fans here, and damaging your reputation was never the intention of this (intentionally) harmless prank. Nintendo has always been supportive of its' fansites, and we have never had any problems with them. All of your hatred should be directed at me, not them.

Also, I'm sorry for any heartache we caused for you guys, our members. We thought you guys would all see through this obviously flawed story that was posted days before April Fool's day. Unfortunately, both our staff and our users seem to have too much faith in what the administration team says. We're sorry for betraying your trust, and I can promise you that this is the end of our pranks here at friendcodes.com. I'm aware that many of you will be absolutely outraged by this revelation, and I won't be surprised if you decide to leave. That's fine, I don't blame you. However, if you do decide to leave a website because of a joke (albeit a very large, arguably unfunny and cruel joke), perhaps it's for the best. I know many of you become emotionally invested in websites, but please don't let it become an obsession.

Finally, I'd like to apologize to the digg community, which I never dreamt would get involved. The traffic we are receiving is completely undeserved, and I feel absolutely horrible that they had to get involved. They are a powerful community, and I know they don't like to be messed with.

Sorry. I know it's probobally too late to ask for forgiveness, but I want you all to know that we never had malicious intentions, and we just wanted you guys to all have a laugh. It looks like we ended up being the fools."

I laughed.
