Aren't they sucking up the hot air at the top of a room and blowing it down on you, wouldn't that make it hotter? doodthing; edumacate;

They don't cool down a room. They push the air around.

Open a window or turn on the AC if you want the overall temperature to change.

Right, it does circulates the air and therefore mixing it up, it can also create the sensation of a cooling effect.
