Every character can be unlocked by playing VS matches, but that takes way to god damn long.

I remember in Melee some trick to do extremely short matches over and over again. befuddlement

There are also other ways you can unlock them than just playing a crap load of vs matches.

I did the vs match way, did it in about 4 hours.

Me and my friend battled like every 10 matches.

Yes, I know about that now, but I doubt you'd find that out while actually fighting him. Still hard to dodge though.
