Oh I just remembered.  It was Faulkner.  Save for "The Bear" everything I've read by him has sucked.

I've only read one of his short stories. Something to do with some crazy lady who keeps the corpse of her dead husband in her house.

Not really. It wasn't done in a horror style or something like that at all. More like a typical small town myth.
