How do you learn how to use the majority of your electronics?

Especially for easy to use programs on the computer like Microsoft Office, GIMP, Paintdotnet, Windows XP, GlovePIE, etc., it's way better to mess around with it for a bit than to read a 500 page book on the program

I can honestly say that I've never once read the manual for a game system. As far back as when I was 5, I never needed a stupid book to tell me to put the yellow connector in the yellow plug, white in white, and red in red. pseudo;

The only time I've looked at the manual for my computer was to see what specific parts it has before upgrading.
