What are all the objects in the universe moving towards?

As we know, all masses in space are moving at an increasing rate apart from each other. It is something no one can really figure out.

My theory: We are but tiny objects in an even larger world. Specifically, a child's toy. When he spins it, the objects fly apart.

It's not accelerating, it's slowing down.  psyduck;

The rate of expansion can be measured and projected into the past/future, where in the past it goes back to the Big Bang, and in the future it eventually slows to no expansion, then starts collapsing all the way back into pre-Big Bang state.
