earthbound suddenly got stupid hard. I can't imagine I'm that underleveled since the dungeon just before fourside was pretty easy. Now I'm dying in like two hits.

it can be. weird difficulty spikes. the game promotes a small amount of level grinding every now and then, made easier by auto-winning (if you're strong enough to beat a foe in one turn, you don't even go to a battle screen, you just win right there on the field and get experience)
