The same thing keeps happening to me. My Zune headphones ripped, and then one of the earbuds on the iPod ones popped open. I'm on my third set of earbuds since Christmas. The samsung ones seem durable though...

Yeah, get the samsungs, they're the best I've used in a while. And I can turn them mildly high without hurting my ears, because it kind of provides a gap between your earbud and the ear.
