Unless the instruments are out of tune/are broken, all I hear is music. What makes music bad?

Horrible beat, horrible lyrics, horrible vocals.   But even that's my opinion.  I just despise snap.  It give all of rap a bad name.

All I hear is a beat and some lyrics, which is pretty catchy. Is it opinion that defines how good music is? How can everyone agree on the same thing?

The beat and Lyrics are both pretty dry and sound like they are looped.

But yes, everything is opinion.

I usually really dislike songs heavy in electric guitar because the music sounds really high pitched and whiny, but there are some songs that I do like with them,  it's all personal preference.

Hip-Hop just sounds like Hip-Hop to me.

You haven't developed a taste in music yet I guess. Everything sounded the same to me as well until I turned 15.

I still don't understand the true concept of "taste in music", and about your current taste in music, do you pay attention to the lyrics now? Or what do you think allows you to hear music differently?

When the band is purely a product of big labels' marketing schemes, when the music is bland, when the lyrics/rhythms/melodies are shallow and uncreative, when the music is obviously tailored only to fit into a mold that people will buy...

True, some of the music sounds just about the same as each other's music (just like Hip-Hop, but with things like Rock and such), but is having one of those bland songs as a favorite mean you have a bad taste in music? *tries not to say anything about Linkin Park*

Yeah, of course I pay attention to the lyrics. There are still songs out there that I like even though their lyrics are stupid (most Van Halen hits). The more you listen to different types of music, the more you'll begin to form favorites, and then you'll start mostly listening to stuff similar to those favorites, etc.

As for what allows me to hear music differently these days...I'm not really sure. It's awfully hard for me to explain why I see music differently now than I did before my mid-teens.

If you're wondering how my taste developed, I guess you can blame my mom. She basically raised me on The Eagles and The Doors (along with the Grease soundtrack, which I now detest). Knowing I already liked those two bands, I tried bands from similar eras. I found some I liked, then I found some more I liked...etc.

That's cool. I just listen to the song if it sounds good, and if I listen to the song enough times, I pick up on the lyrics.
