I remember my teacher saying "whatever you do to one side, you must do to the other" though, which if what he says also is used in this case, would make this true and would make it so one doesn't equal two.

a = b
a² = ab
a²-b² = ab-²
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)

(a+b)(0) = b(0)
0 = 0

Thats how it should be solved I think. Although I'm sick of this problem now  caterpie;
