Poll
Question: y/n
Option 1: Likes are destroying Boyah and must be disabled at once. I will expound my argument below. votes: 2
Option 2: Likes must remain enabled. They are in fact a necessary step in making Boyah more competitive with Facebook and its ilk. votes: 7
Title: PotD: Do Likes Represent the Facebookification of Boyah?
Post by: Kalahari Inkantation on August 04, 2018, 11:05:43 AM
Likes probably do represent the Facebookification of Boyah at least somewhat, but truthfully, not all elements of Facebook are necessarily bad. Zucc must have done something right in order for his platform to have become the single largest and most powerful social network in human history by several orders of magnitude. srsly

Doodthing has recently answered our prayers and Facebook is finally beginning to decline. We must do all we can to ensure that we are poised to capitalize on this massive opportunity to become the next big social network. If that means the implementation of likes, you better believe I'm all for it. srs

i personally think likes increase net interactivity of boyah's users with boyah too lol, and part of what helped to make facebook massive is keeping users engaged

so be sure to like/comment/subscribe and make your opinion heard n_n

btw, a vote for "likes are destroying boyah" is also a vote for "i will expound my argument below"

as in, it doesn't count unless you explain yourself n_n

Same, the speed and functionality of the forum is great but hopefully we can get a better theme and maybe make the wording more Boyah like.

Well one thing they could do is cut down on when people quote something without adding anything to it. And cut down on posts as a side effect.

yes it is facebooky but i dont think they're inherently a negative thing. it's nice to give people props for a nice post if you have nothing to add to it. i also like that we can record stats on posts. lots of forums do it.

It's just kinda pointless and adds visual clutter

But if we keep it def change the icon to wrench; and change name from Like to Wrench

I'd support changing like to wrench
Title: Re: PotD: Do Likes Represent the Facebookification of Boyah?

I can make a smaller, greyscale wrench icon to go with it

it definitely needs to be tied to a restored doodthingocity that tracks likes
Title: Re: PotD: Do Likes Represent the Facebookification of Boyah?
Post by: Samus Aran on August 05, 2018, 08:59:47 PM
quota needs to come back and then doodthingocity can be an equation based on quota and likes
Title: Re: PotD: Do Likes Represent the Facebookification of Boyah?
Post by: Hiro on August 06, 2018, 12:46:33 AM
Nah doodthingocity was dumb
A total number of likes attributed to you would be alright, and quota should be like 600 a month
Title: Re: PotD: Do Likes Represent the Facebookification of Boyah?
Post by: Daddy on August 06, 2018, 08:56:39 AM
quota should be the  highest number of posts by a particular user in the previous month

Average number of posts by active user a day
Title: Re: PotD: Do Likes Represent the Facebookification of Boyah?
Post by: Kalahari Inkantation on August 07, 2018, 12:19:32 AM
maybe there should be a hard numbered baseline quota that also auto-adjusts up and down (the minimum being that hard baseline) with overall activity

can we have a quota that is relative to the current activity of the entire internet, scaled down to the size of our userbase???
