Title: boyah documentary
Post by: C.Mongler on July 26, 2018, 09:27:53 AM
if i ever stumble into millions of dollars and never have to work again, i would consider traveling hte country to connect with many of you for interviews to create the Boyahmentary.

What topics do you think should be covered?

Who should be interviewed?

make a gofundme

also is boyah something that we necessarily want the world to know about

although it would probably attract new users :0

i mean i do think it would be a kind of interesting concept at least

a hyper niche forum of nintendo-fan-forum-expats that has been going for over a decade. who are these people? why do they post? why are they so lonely?

maybe netflix will buy it

honestly with the proper framing devices i do think it could be interesting. especially if one of us ends up famously in jail or something

Sometimes I think about how most people don't have a boyah. This is a very specialized community, literally about nothing, that exists only because it's existed for so long. It's crazy that this is just a normal part of my life that I accept. Most people don't have this. That's fucking bonkers

i don't think you're wrong- it has kind of the same appeal as that parking lot documentary (if u haven't watched it u should)

the fact that boyagers have met up and even moved in together is pretty damn impressive. plus things like our web of boyager meetups are cool

i would help

the dream: we make the documentary and become so wildly flooded with new users that we have to bring back the validation board and all og boyagers get to carefully prune new members to create the true boyah 2.0

The plan? Make a titillating slice-of-life documentary to attract news users to Boyah once they see just how kooky and alternative all of our current members are.

UPDATE

so i've been thinking, and i think i'm going to do a zero budget version of this in my free time. i think its really neat how we're mostly still here a decade after the closing of the forum we all came from, all bein buddies and friends and guys, and i think our story needs to be told to the world, or at the very least, documented in some fashion so we can reminisce when we're all senile and sterile.

right now i am obviously at the super super super SUPER early planning phase. i'll have to map out some plot points and then collect materials/archival stuff and then conduct interviews to help fill in the story. most all of them will probably be via skype/whatever more secure video chat platform, but I'll probably try to travel and catch a couple of you in person. my timeline for this is most certainly going to be a few years at least lol.

so who should i interview/chat with about initial research/history? JMV is an obvious one, so is snorks-mcgee if i could ever get ahold of his ass, but who else y'all?

in all honesty it will probably be told from the lens of my life since that will be easier with literally no budget and shitty over-the-internet interviews, but i want to be as all encompassing of our history and culture as i can be

reaper, certainly

i've been trying to gain a fuller understanding of boyah's early history here (https://boyah.net/forums2/index.php/topic,69955.0.html) which could benefit this documentary project too lol, but i still need more deetz on bassir/mariofreak/lawlz's roles in the site's early development

Most of my knowledge is more on a personal level with a few members.  n_u  I never was privy to the Admin and and decision making part of the forum. I could never reveal my private talks with members. They know too much.  n_n Felt always seemed to know what was going on with the forum.

you still seem to have a great deal of historical knowledge, especially with regard to how boyah relates (or related) to other (post-nsider) communities lol

you were also around for powerspike and have probably known some of the users here for longer than anyone dittodood;

you don't need to have been an admin or mod to have observed and offer valuable insight on how boyah developed lol

agreed, he's been mostly silently observing boyah since nearly the beginning and probably has some unique perspectives on how it's developed lol

i believe zidone also has particularly close ties to lawlz and could lend some insight on him

I don't know how willing he'd be to participate in a project like this, however. goowan
