I'm pretty sure they're allowed to take advantage of modern conveniences as long as they don't operate them themselves. So they can't drive a car but they can take a bus.

I live around a ton of Amish farms. They have a ton of customs most people don't know about. I visited one of the farms before and was surprised to learn it was rude to not shut the gate after yourself when you left. And I mean the huge gate that goes across the driveway.
