imvho and personal definition of sport, a sport is a competitive game with a set of rules in which success depends on physical ability

now, mind you, physical ability doesn't necessarily mean physical effort
a sport doesn't necessarily need intense cardio to be a sport

e-sports games need a lot of strategy, but they also rely on physical abilities
you can't compete in starcraft if you can't do those moves per seconds
you can't compete in csgo if you can't react fast enough

so that would includes not-that-intense competitive activities such as:

golf
bowling
darts
billiards
video games

and would exclude:

poker
chess (awdood;)

Only Kinect is an e sport

The International Olympic Committee recognizes chess as a sport, and for that reason, I don't see why e-"""sports""" couldn't also be a sport. smithicide;

and success in e-sports really does in many cases heavily depend upon physical abilities like reaction time, hand-eye coordination, hand/arm strength, etc. (much more so than chess or card games do for example), but e-sports don't depend on overall physical fitness the way more traditional sports like running do

i don't really see why e-sports can't be "sports"

Poker billiards etc shouldnt really be considered sports either but w/e.

I’d say yes for much the same reasons Thyme laid out in his original post.  I think it’s a little silly to be marketing them as sports, but this could also be my inate jealousy speaking as I haven’t been able to turn my love of truck simulation games into a viable career.


But honestly I don’t think I’d enjoy it as much tbh
