Thoughts? Im curious to how people respond to this op piece.
is game informer still a puff piece for gamestop
or am i thinking of another magazine
I don't have a lot of experience because I only really got back into playing videogames within the last few years, but from everything I've seen so far, the "gaming culture" is probably the whiniest, angriest, most antagonistic and shallow user bases outside of music snobs.

no you are right, they are owned by gamestop
Though its not like gamestop tells them what to think.
or do they??? or does it matter either way???

it really is.
i mean, the "gaming culture" reserves the right to be angry about what they want to be angry about but they take it to a whole 'nother level by doing the same thing that music elitism does: making people feel bad for not being "hardcore."
there are issues where some of the whining may or may not be justified. issues like day 1 dlc, etc. but then there are instances like mass effect 3's ending where pretty much absolutely everyone huddled together in a massive, sweaty hate orgy and tried their very best to make everyone at bioware afraid for their lives. what i'm tryin to say here is that gamer entitlement goes way too far.

it is relevant because shamestop has a vested interest in wanting people to shut up and buy games and supporting the existing gaming industry

well duh. They operate a game store. Of course they want people to buy games.
that wasn't really felt's point lol
Then what was it?
my point is really just consider the source
Oh. I know the source. And his point was to stop being so negative and enjoy games
i'll have fun when games start being fun
I'll just play what appeals to me.
Steam, Wii U and 3DS are probably the best platforms for me.
If anything comes up on PS4 or Xbone, I'll consider it.
shut up and buy our $90 special editions of trash games and all 50 of our $10 dlc costume packs and $30 season passes with no promise of new or good content

Or..............just don't buy it?
games pretty much revolve around dlc these days. it's infesting everything because people actually buy that shit

companies skimp out of content and shit because they know they can just sell it later for more.
So..........just don't buy it.

if you don't buy dlc, the market will force the gaming industry to stop developing dlc... right?
itt:
ppl's love for a game vs. the game being divided into dlc
i dont play video games and i publicly shame anyone who does
Wow.... everyone is missing the point entirely

good mindset
Did anyoneactually read the article?
yes. i agree with the denouncing of the 4chan-ish attitude of having a negative, hate-filled reaction to literally everything, and the shittiness of the "nerd tribalism" that is perpetuated through console wars. but you can't completely give up your sense of criticism and just accept and praise every game that comes out. the video game industry NEEDS criticism right now especially, because it's going down the shitter.

well, thats not my point either. The point is to not completely shit on every game immediately
That's what Nyerp is saying

but they'll start being fun when people shut up
And I guess dlc and all that fluff was a way for publishers to raise the prices of games without actually appearing to.

But yeah sorry nyerp .
I misunderstood what you wrote
i think the game industry has gotten pretty saturated with "good" games over the last couple decades and now it is hard for developers to come out with new content that hasn't been done in some way before
this has also given gamers unrealistically high expectations for games, so the littlest things, even if they shouldn't be a deal-breaker by any means, get blown out of proportion
i see this a lot on boyah and on reddit
of course it is all subjective and i don't really follow the industry anymore anyways

especialy those fuckin chileans on uncharted
whatever david god
i wish the gaming industry was like the music industry despite it being a failing industry
on second thought, they are already pretty similar
so do you hate learning or something
lmao
Sometimes i wonder....
