Title: A Link between Links
Post by: TooB on October 27, 2013, 08:32:14 PM
It very well could be mostly nostalgia, but i am very excited for the 3ds zelda, a link between worlds.

Anybody else looking forward to it?

it's zelda, so i can't help but be interested

but definitely less interested than i have been for almost any other zelda game

Definitely planning on getting it, but probably not for a while. Seems like they really put some time and effort into this one.

Much credit has to be given to whoever designed the cover art. It's beautiful.

my hype for zelda games as of late has been at historically low levels, and almost nothing about this game evokes positive emotions within me

i should never feel so indifferent about zelda

regardless, i'll probably own a copy before the end of the year because in the end i'm still a sucker for the brand

Title: Re: A Link between Links

they gave up on that in the late 90s, only now they've discovered a new and less conspicuous way to recycle old compositions

I'm slightly more excited for this game than I was for Spirit Tracks after playing Phantom Hourglass
I wasn't excited enough about Spirit Tracks to ever buy it
I'll probably get this game sometime, christmas at the earliest, but I already have a few reasons to believe it looks likely to disappoint.
my eyes water with frustration every time i'm reminded that spirit tracks' sales and reputation suffered as a result of phantom hourglass' utter worthlessness

not that it's a particularly stellar game, but it's the infinitely better of the two ds iterations of zelda :(
I'm not exactly sure how it works, but you face a shadow link that the other player customized to earn rupees

http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/15/5109688/the-legend-of-zelda-a-link-between-worlds-review-as-a-picture

QuoteA Link Between Worlds takes the fundamentals of the series' 16-bit era and flips its design conceits on their head. Nintendo has taken its most sacred cow and pushed it out into a more open world with all the terrifying freedom the series has never had.

The result? The best Zelda game of the last twenty years.

QuoteThere are no five-hour tutorial phases, no hand-holding. You go from waking up in your bed to swinging a sword in all of five minutes. This new Zelda doesn't waste any time getting you to play it. And it plays incredibly well.

QuoteThe game feels exactly like it should as a sequel to A Link to the Past. In fact, it feels like someone went back in time to give the designers of Link to the Past a 3DS to make a direct sequel.

my (current) top five, in no particular order:

oracle of ages
oracle of seasons
a link to the past
majora's mask
wind waker

if forced to pick an absolute favorite of those five, i'd say maybe oracle of ages is #1, but i've always had an extremely difficult time picking a true favorite zelda game because there are so many contenders for the top spot

and this is why ranking zeldas is difficult lol

i was tempted to put link's awakening in that list, but on the other hand, oracle of ages/seasons are supremely enhanced versions of link's awakening at their base, and having three 2d handheld games in the top five just seems like overkill

la is deserving of a top spot but there's just no space for it lol :'(

no, they're not like pokemon

they're two entirely different games that run on the same engine and use a similar sprite set and art style, but the overworld and dungeons and story and puzzles and all the other important characteristics of the game are all different

they're more comparable to ocarina of time vs. majora's mask than, say, pokemon x/y

Huh. Maybe I should get around to playing Oracle of Ages then. I only played Oracle of Seasons when it first came out and just assumed that Oracle of Ages was like the Pokemon Red version of the game.

in addition, though they complement each other through linking, it's not just to get "version exclusive" things, it's literally that you can't get the "true ending" to begin with without linking them together lol

you have to play both games to truly beat either of them
Title: Re: A Link between Links
Post by: Kalahari Inkantation on November 17, 2013, 02:40:42 PM
yeah, you're getting less than half the full experience by playing just one or the other (whereas if you play either of the games in a pokemon pairing you're probably getting like 90 percent of the 'full' experience)

considering there isn't any set order for the later dungeons, i imagine this would have to be the case

finished this a few minutes ago
i like how this game made me wonder what exactly the value of the triforce is

it's done nothing but cause wars and has only ever been used for 'good' in retaliation to evil

the triforce is a massive everlasting blight upon hyrule, why not just get rid of the damn thing

i didn't expect to have that question answered but then hilda revealed exactly what happened when lorule's royal family had the very same idea

lol
Also, did Hilda really deserve to have Lorule restored? She's both malevolent and utterly incompetent and did absolutely nothing to redeem herself after deliberately attempting to destroy yet another kingdom in a futile attempt to save her own dilapidated shithole. akudood;
