At least with SD cards, there's actually a pretty significant difference in price between cards of different speed ratings.

but I just looked Vita's cards up and apparently they have been measured to be, at least in practice, 6~8MB/s, which is comparable to class 6 SD card and much lower than class 10 or UHS SD cards. The speeds can only be measured with Vita, though, so maybe there's a lot of decryption overhead or something pointless like that.

At least, by using proprietary cards, you can prevent people from having poorer load-time performance (and blaming the system and games rather than their card) when using low-speed cards.

Quoteand 1GB of onboard storage.

why even bother

also sony itself sells a 64gb class 10 sdhc card for about 35 percent of the cost (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Class-Memory-SF64UY-TQMN/dp/B00B7ID9CU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1378712868&sr=8-1&keywords=64gb+sdhc) of this new vita memory card rofl

ironically it's the cheapest sd card of its size and class i can find, by a significant margin

sony had to be 'tough' on piracy so it created bullShit

it's just like nintendo's bs with online multiplayer

also uh

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/09/sony-reveals-new-hardware-ps-vita-tv

there now exists a model of the ps vita that's only $100, minus all the touch gimmicks and portability

now this is something i might actually have to buy

man are those things hideous

the second one in particular looks like someone took a page right out of the game's manual and printed it onto the vita

also i love the polygon comment thread on the article about this redesigned viter.  there's a guy who literally kept spewing that oled screens were just led-backlit lcds in at least six comments.  even though people kept correcting him every time lol

Sony's trying to compete against handheld ugliness with Nintendo's 2DS.

depending on the degree of compatibility between the vita tv and games built for the vita, i might honestly buy a vita tv awdood;

that is true. how would tearaway work on vita tv?  even with a dualshock 4, that only accounts for one touch surface, and there's still no camera.

Post by: Kalahari Inkantation on September 09, 2013, 04:18:34 PM
i guess games like tearaway that incorporate touch controls or camera functionality on such a fundamental level are going to be completely incompatible with it

but what about those games like uncharted that tacked on cheap and wholly unnecessary touch controls at the last minute, i wonder if sony and other publishers will release compatibility updates or if games from this point on will have to be designed with the vita tv in mind

i could see that uncharted game getting a patch.  i guess it depends on how dedicated other developers are to it though.

i wonder how much sony would try to charge here though.  if it were $100 like it pretty much in japan, it'd make things fairly difficult.

i wish the grey was more neutral.  it reminds me more of the gun metal grey ps3 and say the grey power brick of the wii

but the blue is ni ce

i finally spotted a difference aside from thickness
(http://i.imgur.com/WSix44r.jpg)
the new one seems a little rounder in the face

also the start / select / ps buttons are perfectly circular rather than elliptical

and the speakers are differently shaped

and the buttons / d pad no longer look like they're going through mitosis with the thumb sticks

i hope the ps button doesn't glow
Title: Re: Vita Slim & Vita TV

also the screen has a weird border on it that kind of matches the sticker-like lock screen

If I ever get any Vita, it'll probably be Vita TV giggle;

snowy i'd just keep the vita you have, there's no loss in having it but you have compatibility with all vita games, ps4 remote play, a better screen, and maybe 3G access if you have that model

if sony actually decides to release the different shades here.
at least the vita is region free and japan [basically] uses the same outlets we do awdood;
http://www.polygon.com/2013/9/11/4718538/original-ps-vita-screen-gets-compared-to-the-new-re-designed-system

that seems like quite a bit of a downgrade, despite the issues with oled longevity :(

if i ever do get a (portable) vita, i think i'll probably just pick up the old model used

as for the TVita, i'm sold

i'm unrealistically really hoping that just happens to be a defective unit and they're not all so much yellower than the oled models :'(

wow that's significant

i'd just buy the 1000 model used if in some alternate universe i were ever to deem it necessary to own a vita
