i'm having a hard time believing this isn't some sort of elaborate prank
I would actually buy this if it folded to protect the screens
3d is dead
rip
lmao
just lmao
i never play in 3d so i would get this if it's less than a regular 3ds

It's $130, which is $50 less than the regular 3DS.
I wonder what the exact sizing is for this and in particular the screens.

article popsi linked shows size comparisons. Although the 2ds is just a sketch becausennintendo wouldn't allow for pictures.
Screens are same as regular 3ds

yeah the author also noted that it either did not fit in his pocket or did not comfortably fit
i was genuine enthusiastic when i saw the news on twitter until i saw it didn't fold :(
I saw this. Theres no point. You can turn off 3d on the 3ds
the 3ds's version of the gameboy micro, except without the micro part. great job.

well aside from the cheaper price point
Apparently some parents were worried their children would turn on the 3d too when it's bad for them

3d doesn't damage people's eyes or cause seizures in most people lol
it usually causes eyestrain
that warning nintendo gave out is just overcautious

idk there was something about kids below a certain age being negatively affected by it
Real or perceived it hurt sales for that demographic
Rofl. I've been waiting for the 2D version for so long, but it looks as poorly designed as the Wii Mini
if the Nintendo 2ds becomes the lowest common denominator, could all 3ds games from now on abandon 3d?
It is very Wii Mini-esque, yes
and I think it's pretty obviously targeted to moms who:
-don't want to spend very much on a 3DS
-think 3d's going to destroy their kid's eyes or something stupid
so in theory this wasn't a bad move to make at all, it's just that awful hinge-less design that ruins it
i can't wait for jmv to throw a fit about this though 5thgrade;
it might be comfortable for kids to hold though, and it certainly does look like a toy for smaller children. portability and aesthetics don't really matter for that group much anyways
and i can see this thing going for $99 on black friday, or at least coming bundled with pokemon
so while the thing does look awful, i guess there could be a market for it
Same disastor as pspgo
Probably

unlikely. Psps weren't exactly the hottest things on the market anyway and then they took out a ton of features like hard copy discs. It will probably do alright enough, nothing groundbreaking

true...
But still...
Psp go rocks.
I got one at a thrift-store thing for like fifty bucks and it's the absolute ultimate emulator machine.
pre-ordered
Man you guys really need to get over your bad atti2ds
goowan
there aren't a lot of games that are hindered by removing 3d. but like Super Mario 3D Land is a lot harded imo if you removed the 3d completely.
i like the 3d on the 3ds, but going full blast usually causes the eyestrain that felt mentioned. i usually have it at like halfway.
like almost everyone in the thread, the hingeless design is off putting, but i also remember having an original gameboy that was a brick that ate batteries like the Leviathan devours whales. That thing didn't have a hinge and was massive but i shoved that thing in my pockets on every trip i went on, so i doubt it's a issue for the people that will recieve this product (i.e. kids like 12 and under)
However they have zagg shields for other models of the 3ds so i would assume they'll make them for this one too.
the first 2ds was the 3ds xl.
i just watched the video and looked at some images of it from the side... i didn't expect it to be tapered like that befuddlement
Wouldn't a 2DS be a regular DS......
Should call it DS2...

with the wider gap between the external cameras, it'll actually probably be better at taking 3d pictures than the other two models. befuddlement

yeah. it's really just a desperate bid to get parents unwilling to spend $150 on a handheld for their child to get this for pokémon x/y since it comes out on the same day :(
seriously
and i guess this means nintendo still hasn't learned their lesson about releasing products with names deliberately designed to confuse the masses
just came in here to say this is stupid as hell.
wat
what's the point?
I just now realized: folding matters for quite a bit more than just protecting the screens.
A lot of features rely on having the system folded, so I looked into it and apparently 2DS has a sleep switch on the bottom. Out of all the renders I've seen so far, none showed the bottom, so I haven't seen it.
I wonder if this switch will count as "folding" in all games.
One thing that comes to mind right now is a part of Phantom Hourglass in which the player is told to copy an image from the top screen to the map in some way, with the solution being folding the system. With 2DS, maybe the sleep switch can advance past this, but it's even more unintuitive than the game was originally.

I'm almost positive it will, since that's really the only way those games could tell the thing was closed. But I do agree, no kid's going to figure that out.
Also you can see a switch along the bottom-right in the front-facing images:

@KazHiraiCEO (https://twitter.com/KazHiraiCEO/statuses/372765705093283840): I’m suing Nintendo. Making a 2D handheld that nobody wants is an idea they stole from the PS Vita

The 2D's will play the same games as the 3D's.
I've never heard of anybody pronouncing 3DS wrong.
How did they get "lower-resolution graphics"? doodhuh;
also, only 30 seconds of that video is about Nintendo, although they managed to squeeze about 5 misunderstandings/mistakes in that short time.
And Moto X is very overpriced, despite what this video claims.

I like how the top screen now technically supports touch input and the software simply doesn't (and never will) support it.
Now I'm curious what this thing will look like when disassembled.

you should know that your opinion is wrong
it looks on par with the regular 3ds, but then again i think that's a rather poorly designed system [like the original ds]. it's worse than the xl though
Why would portable smash be wrong??????????
portable smash might literally be everything i ever wanted
