Title: FF:IX
Post by: strongbad on March 22, 2012, 11:36:29 AM
I recently read that there is a mode in FF:IX that lets you assign different characters to different controllers. I think this would be pretty fucking fun to do with a friend. Has anybody tried this? Any opinions on FF:IX as a whole?

I think ima buy it depending on the advice from you guys

Also are there any other RPGs out there that you guys are aware of that offer similar modes of play (assigning different controllers to different characters that is)

symphonia 2 is pretty much ass

typically only two party members, helped along by two monsters, and the monster system pretty much sucks

i know you have a 360, go with tales of vesperia if you're going to play a tales game. and yes, they are entirely multiplayer if you want them to be.

earthbound also has that feature if I'm not mistaken.

I think I've heard about that feature. Not sure if it's a legit thing though, never tried it.

Final Fantasy IX is my favorite Final Fantasy and it's the only one I really could stand playing for a long period of time.

lol, no

the "multiplayer" in earthbound amounts to the fact that the game accepts inputs from both controller ports, meaning second player can do everything the first player can

which basically means if you're going to play it with a friend, you'd better decide who does what beforehand, because otherwise you'll interfere with each other

man, waiting to select a button from a menu in repetitive battles while your friend does everything else in what is meant to be a single-player experience just sounds like so much fun

lol

i can see it being somewhat enjoyable just to experience the story together, while maybe one person controls ness in battle, the other person controls paula...something like that.

and they could alternate who controls ness on the field, maybe. idk. it sounds like it could be enjoyable with someone who really enjoys the game.

except this way you get to experience it with another person

he basically made a jab at you by insinuating that you don't like the idea of multiplayer in rpgs because you have no friends

i figured it was a weak attempt that was just plain uncalled for and betrayed a bitterness he harbors against you because of your differing opinions in this thread

i was being slightly genuine
i enjoy experiencing videogames with my friends and i've read elsewhere that this kind of multiplayer in particular is enjoyable

so my comment seemed logical

yeah, it was meant to be insulting, but it also had a point behind it.
because friends are necessary for multiplayer

my room mates are fuckers
we were all around the same level and then one night i went out without them and they stayed in and leveled their gauntlet characters to like 20 levels above my archer

well, i'm sure an action rpg like that is better to play with a friend than say a menu-based one like ffix

Notsid, if you don't mind ~piracy~ you could get a PSP 1000 or 2000 and put custom firmware on it and get all sorts of PS1 games not on the PSN.

No, it's really easy if your firmware is under 5.00. Even if it's higher it's relatively easy.

3000 has more protection, so it's rather limited to what you can do with it. 2000 and 1000 are the best for cfw.
