I have, let us say, a 'surplus' of 683 dollars. Is this sufficient for me to purchase a PS3, some accessories, and several decent games? I know nothing of these things, so help me! girl;
I am jealous of watching my friend play CD3. myface;
I am pretty sure the ps3 is 299 now, and you get all the accessories you'd really need. A game should run you like 60 or something and if you want a mic maybe ~20
that puts you about about 400 so you could possibly pick up a couple extra games or controllers if you like
YES DO IT
a ps3 is $250 and many of its best games can be found for $30 or less new
I want to play some video games with you guys, but I would never spend my actual money for it, so yeah, this I can do. What store would have all of this, something like Best Buy or Game Stop etc...?
I want a place where I can go, direct some underling, point and stare as they pile everything in front of me for a preparation of a big purchase. wariodood;
also what "accessories" are you thinking about

both best buy and gamestop would carry most if not all of what you want, or walmart of target or any of those other major stores
Also, scrounge ebay for used games.
You should get uncharted 2 and jump into one of our games sometime.

Two controllers (wireless/with wires/two in one?), memory sticks (i don't know if these are ancient by now?), all of the charging cords and plugs, a headset (cool one), all of the internet connection switches and breakers, some fans to cool it (pads i don't know), and any and all other suggestions are welcomed.
also yes, suggest games to me
i am looking to start with an initial 5-10 games or so.
i do want all of the latest shooter/military games, but also ones you guys play.
do you guys still play uncharted 2 over uncharted 3?
why?

do you have an hdtv
If you do, you'll need an HDMI cable, which can be found for less than $5.00 on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_scat_202505011_ln?rh=n%3A202505011%2Ck%3Ahdmi+cable&keywords=hdmi+cable&ie=UTF8&qid=1330837197&scn=202505011&h=04de6d7b08c8def888798a8221764d966f7056b6less).
all ps3 controllers are wireless and the console itself comes with one controller and the cord you'd need to charge it (a standard usb cable)
you can find a second controller for about $40 on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Dualshock-Wireless-Controller-Black-3/dp/B0015AARJI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1330837017&sr=8-3), though i've seen them for less
Also, the PS3 comes with an HDD built in, so you probably won't need a memory card unless you have other uses for it.
(though it would make sense to get an external hdd at some point to back up your data)
i'm less experienced with headsets because i don't use them myself, but i'm sure you can find a decent one for like $20-$30
If you'll be using a wired connection, you'll need an ethernet cable; otherwise it can connect wirelessly and you won't need any cables at all.
and cooling fans are pretty worthless lol, the ps3 slim does a pretty good job at keeping itself cool as long as it's kept in an open area
that was very helpful tech. i will make a list of all of these things and gather my money and probably head out monday. is the ps3 slim a different beast than the normal ps3, if so, is it worth the upgrade?
PS3 new will run you about $250-$300, games are about $60 if bought new (recent ones at least, not including HD collections), cords are dirt cheap, PS3 has bluetooth so any wireless headset with bluetooth works, fans aren't needed, it has wifi built in.
Games:
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
LittleBigPlanet 2
God of War Collection
Uncharted 1/2/3
Portal 2
The Orange Box
Red Dead Redemption
Catherine
Burnout Paradise
L.A. Noire
Team ICO Collection
Dead Space 2
Demon's Souls
Borderlands

the only difference I know of is size and the fans. Slim cools itself better.

the ps3 slim is the current model and only one available, it replaced a larger version of the beast in 2009
there are no real differences, other than size, to worry about
You should be aware that there are two versions of the Slim being sold, one at $250 and the other at $300, with the only difference being HDD size (160GB vs. 320 GB). I'd go for the cheaper model; you can always upgrade the HDD later if you really find it necessary.
AS FOR GAMES:
Actually, before I start wildly recommending things, what are into besides shooters? What have you enjoyed in the past? What other consoles do/have you owned? befuddlement
i have liked racing/sport games, and i have owned only one console, that being a sega saturn, circa 99. good times.
Quote from: Colonel Cold on the Cob on March 03, 2012, 08:54:47 PM
do you guys still play uncharted 2 over uncharted 3?
why?
uncharted 3's multiplayer is completely different, it's been revamped and doesn't particularly feel as much like uncharted anymore
it's more serious, with a lot more shit going on. 2's multiplayer is sillier and less refined, but we (or at least i) find it a lot more fun.

oh boy, this isn't going to be easy myface;
Well, to start, you can find Modern Warfare 3 for $42 on Amazon. (http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-Modern-Warfare-3-Playstation/dp/B00503E9FY/ref=sr_1_1_title_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330838813&sr=1-1)
If you're interested in its prequels and related titles in the Modern Warfare series, you can find the original Modern Warfare for $20, Modern Warfare 2 for $30, and Black Ops for $40.
(i've never played any of the modern warfare games myself, but it's currently literally the most popular series of games in the world, so they're probably a pretty safe bet if you're a shooter fan lol)
Another series you should seriously consider is Uncharted. The Uncharted games are the ones we play together most often, and it's the most popular exclusive series on the console. You can find the first two Uncharted games together for a total of $30 (http://www.amazon.com/UNCHARTED-Greatest-Hits-Dual-sony-playstation3/dp/B0055202HE/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330839130&sr=1-1), and the more recent Uncharted 3 for about $54 (http://www.amazon.com/Uncharted-3-Drakes-Deception-Playstation/dp/B004EQCCI4/ref=sr_tr_sr_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330839181&sr=1-1).
(if $54 is a bit much for you, you can always wait for the price to drop later on, because uncharted 2 is most popular with us anyway lol)
grand theft auto 4 and red dead redemption are also some of the most popular and enjoyable third-person shooters available, amazon has them for $28 (http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Theft-Episodes-Liberty-Playstation-3/dp/B0045U01OG/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330839455&sr=1-1-spell) and $36 (http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Redemption-Game-Year-sony-playstation3/dp/B005N4HBIW/ref=sr_1_1_title_0?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330839550&sr=1-1), respectively
The PS3 has one major racing game, Gran Turismo 5, which you can get new for $40 (http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Gran-Turismo-Edition-Playstation-3/dp/B006JKARN0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1330839673&sr=8-2).
if you'd like some shooters with a twist, the orange box and portal 2 are immensely popular, as are the bioshock games
mass effect 2 ($20) (http://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-2-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0J5YW/ref=sr_1_1_title_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330840563&sr=1-1) is also a great one
if you care to try fantasy/superhero-type games, infamous ($23) (http://www.amazon.com/inFAMOUS-Playstation-3/dp/B000ZK7ZOE/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330840618&sr=1-1-spell) is incredibly fun
And if you'd be willing to try something a bit more outside of your comfort zone, there's a medieval action-adventure RPG called Demon's Souls ($20) (http://www.amazon.com/Demons-Souls-Playstation-3/dp/B002AB7TX8/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330840656&sr=1-1) that PS3 owners tend to fawn over. Be warned, it's extremely difficult. tomatoes;
and then there's also the assassin's creed series
There are also some HD remakes of PS2 titles you might have missed, like the Metal Gear Solid Collection ($37) (http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B0050SX97I/ref=sr_1_1_title_0?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330840718&sr=1-1), the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection ($39) (http://www.amazon.com/The-Shadow-Colossus-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0J5FG/ref=sr_1_1_title_0?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330840749&sr=1-1) and the God of War Collection ($24) (http://www.amazon.com/God-War-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B002NN7AKU/ref=sr_1_1_title_0?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330840788&sr=1-1). Each of these collections contains 2-3 highly acclaimed, but older games remastered for the PS3. Some of them have sequels available on the PS3 as well, like Metal Gear Solid 4 ($19) (http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Patriots-Playstation-3/dp/B000FQ2D5E/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330840825&sr=1-1) and God of War III ($26) (http://www.amazon.com/God-War-III-Playstation-3/dp/B000ZK9QCS/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330840857&sr=1-1), both of which I'd recommend.
The vast majority of these games are <$40, and every price is linked to its respective Amazon page.
lol have i missed anything myface;
this will take me like a decade to play/know/experience.
i'm going to start slowly with one game for myself, one game for boyah, two games for myself, two games for boyah.
Yeah, I think that might be a good idea. sillydood;
Since your priorities are Modern Warfare and a multiplayer game for Boyah, I'd just start with these two:
-Modern Warfare 3 ($42) (http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-Modern-Warfare-3-Playstation/dp/B00503E9FY/ref=sr_1_1_title_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330838813&sr=1-1)
-Uncharted Dual Pack ($30) (http://www.amazon.com/UNCHARTED-Greatest-Hits-Dual-sony-playstation3/dp/B0055202HE/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1330839130&sr=1-1)
doesn't Modern Warfare have a continuity? might make more sense to start with the first one, if so.

i'm pretty sure they're only very loosely connected, so it wouldn't really matter if you play the older ones or not.
tec is providing good information though. I would recommend Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition, Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition, Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3, Uncharted 2, and maybe Gran Turismo 4 and Battlefield 3 for Socks.
If you want a really good headset, I would say get this one:

also, i noticed that when you did get forward your strikers were often without support, you can select how offensive-/defensive-minded you want to be by pressing right or left representatively on the directional pad.
You mean as a pre set or in game command feature?
in-game. there are other features you can enable with up/down on the d pad too like playing for possession/high pressure, but i hardly notice anything different when using them
also, i am looking to play again tonight, so david i am looking at you.
Around what time? baddood;
Sounds good baddood;
i would say that you're getting better, socks wrench;

i know wtf that tackle didn't even influence anything and you weren't really going to score imminently.
Stop stealing Socks, David.

Indeed. It's a good thing robot refs don't exist in real life.

Sorry cry;
I was driving today and fumbled a gum packet before I recovered and caught it with the same hand. I felt like Boateng on the edge of the 18 yard box. baddood;

Socks, what other games you got?

Socks, what other games you got?
Uncharted 3, MW3, Battlefield 3 and Black Ops. The latter two of which I have yet to play or even have interest in, and really I over did it on the shooters so I am looking to get more games soon and diversify.
Do recommend. What is that one game you guys play that sounds like what Hitler wrote?

The Xbox version hasn't been released yet, and apparently they're announcing more about it on Thursday.

We must play again this evening sir.
indeed bassir;
It's bullshit you don't get experience points in tournament mode.
Not a single card in the entire season but two penalties!?
Also, season three will be tremendous. baddood;
I finally won a game. girl;
So much bad refball against you, and it will. girl;
Also I have a question, what viewing mode do you play in? And, is there a way to make an 'ultimate' composite 'dream team' for exhibition matches and such versus the computer.
I use the television broadcast view.
Hmm, I guess one could use the ultimate team feature to do that, but it'd take awhile to earn all the credits to buy the better card packs I'd imagine. Unless you were willing to fork over real money to EA to buy them, that is.

Same. I've wanted to explore with the 'dynamic' view but I like the situational awareness of tele broadcast even at the sacrifice of certain detail.

Umm I already forked over my damn money when I bought the game! What kind of gimmick crap is this to get you to play their game for insanity and if that is not enough pay them again to play more of their game.
I guess I will just stick with AC Milan.

Same here.
And yeah, microtransactions suck. I've given up on my ultimate team because of the silly nationality rules in almost all of the tournaments and the fact that their contacts are only several matches long at best. awdood;
I guess they couldn't leave out of the game all of the drama diva stuff and give us total control.
