there are too many fucking useless buttons on most tv/dvr/dvd remotes wtf do half those buttons even do i mean what the fuck
there are children in africa who would be happy to have those buttons.
the factory that i used to work at made various types of remote controls. mostly for medical tvs or whatever, but some sort of normal looking remotes.

Hey, these ain't the dark ages anymore. It's time to embrace the technological complexity that your parents generation couldn't even begin to decipher.
Excluding universal remotes, I usually have a good understanding of what every button on any single-machine remote I've used does.
What are some of the buttons that confuse you guys?
Luckily for me, I have a remote that controls other remotes for an all-in-one experience.

i really want a harmony remote so i don't have to use five different remotes whenever i want to watch television and program complex button sequences across devices

Those widgets are largely redundant by far if you have access to a computer, especially the new Pandora Radio widget. I use them mostly to check up on traffic reports and the weather. And those buttons do have their use in the guide, which isn't useless at all. (I use the modes in the FiOS guide as well, rofl.)

There are actually six types of FiOS remotes, listed here: http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/fiostv/remote+controls/setup/setup.htm
Felt just showed a Philips remote, my family's older remotes are Motorola's type, and we have one newer remote (Verizon-branded) similar to that Philips one except with the universal capabilities removed (DVD/AUX/TV/STB buttons removed and replaced with a second power button for TV). As people who are very easily confused by anything vaguely related to technology, they greatly prefer Motorola's layout. I also tend to like more rectangular layouts and the "day +/-" buttons are rather useful when navigating the guide far in the future.

too bad they don't hand out the motorola or the philips remotes anymore because it apparently confuses people with the extra buttons for Audio and DVD on top lol
