i'm not an expert on Yes, but it seems to be a tradition for Steve Howe to always do a little solo number like this on an acoustic guitar during live shows. he did one when i saw them last summer.

I haven't actually had a chance to see them live yet, but that's not surprising.

I consider the best music to be instrumental because pretty much the entire point of music is to convey an emotion, and I feel like lyrics are sort of a way to cheat that power. So I really don't understand why lyrical music is so prominent.

Anyway, considering that, it's really hard to pick just one, but whatevs...

I dispute that the entire point of music is to convey an emotion as it also plays very important roles in preserving history and expressing philosophy. Especially during periods of history when most people were illiterate, lyrics played a very important part in preserving traditions and remembering the past.

Also poetry is just as emotional as music, but would you dispute its validity due to the use of words? Music is expression through sound and I don't see how music would benefit from the elimination of human sound especially when voice can convey emotions very realistically. When it's given honest feeling, songs such as "Love, Reign O'er Me" are capable of grabbing hold of your own emotions. Several boyagers have listed songs that they've cried to and many, if not most, included lyrics. I don't think it's cheating at all, it's good therapy for musicians to be able to express their feelings or thoughts to others and also for listeners to have something with which to identify.
