Title: determining gapless playback information

my ipod has been in this setting for over a couple hours and i'm afraid of cancelling it (it knocks out my computer dead)
HOW LONG MUST I WAIT

oh, and it does this each time i transfer music into the ipod  akudood;

You can cancel it., but you won't have gap-less albums. On CDs, there are gaps, iTunes gets rid of those gaps.

Mine does that too every time I add new songs, but it only lasts like a split second.

I don't even know what the fuck it means.

Optimizing segments of silence at the beginnings/ends of tracks so they flow right into each other.

I hate the goddamn 'Library is being rebuilt, this may take a few minutes' message, I don't understand why this can't be done effectively while the phone's plugged in so that I don't have to wait 5-10 mins to plug into speakers after updating
