Title: Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver Discussion.
Post by: Volvagia on April 08, 2010, 06:56:06 PM
Currently pirating the shit out of it. Only played for 3 hours though. Fuck yeah Desmume, you are a god who can connect to my DS and play over the internets or emulator to emulator with hamachi. Shit feels good.

Seriously though, do you guys enjoy this rehash of Gold & Silver. And if so, what do you like about it?

Oh, and post battle team + levels + progress.

3 hours in + big breaks whilst playing for food and other shit such as internet.

Feraligatr 75
Drowzee 17
Ivysaur 19
Infernape 100
Mismagius 61
Dragonite 49

The ones that aren't evolved will eventually be evolved and that is probably gonna be my final battle team

Meganium - 65
Gengar - 62
Ampharos - 64
Ho-Oh - 61
Snorlax - 61

Snorlax kinda sucks a bit in this game. I don't know what they did. But I'm considering putting him aside and maybe replacing it with Lapras.

I'm glad someone else likes having an Ampharos in their party. Thunder Punch ftw.

Seriously though get an Eevee and evolve it into something or go ahead and catch Lugia if Snorlax sucks that bad. I'm not sure when the Legendary Dogs open up to be caught, but try catch one of them instead if you can right now.

I would have an Ampharos, but I caught an Elekid on my Pokewalker and I've been using it since.

Yup. The second generation is my favourite, and I always start with Chikorita, then catch Gastly in Sprout Tower, then catch Mareep after the first badge. And basically by then, I already have half my team. I don't really like having an Eevee evolution on my team for some reason. And I have Lugia, but I already have Ho-Oh on my team and I don't want to have another legendary because they have obvious strength and I want to mix it up a little.

But Jesus, I'm okay with taking on Red a few times but I have a hard time running through the Pokemon League without having a shitload of full restores and revives. psyduck;

And Snorlax doesn't help me worth a shit. >.<

EVERYONE has ampharos on their team in HG/SS, it's pretty OU as far as I have seen

90 hours clocked in, my team for taking down Clair:
Dewgong
Cloister
Jynx
Ampharos

I know, I have 90 hours clocked in and only 7 gym leaders beaten, I'm doing other things like battling and pokeathloning Not to mention taking the time to EV train takes hours in and of itself, esspecially considering I have been training 3+ pokemon from scratch via breeding for each gym leader since I started the game. I am going full OCD on this one.

Also, i ran into Entei and used stun spore, then when I saw him again he was still paralyzed. I didn't notice that the roamers kept their damaged status, that's cool.

Several times, I've had Entei run away from me while asleep madood;
Then I later found it walking on water while still asleep doodhuh;

My team, as of just finishing the Elite Four for the first time in my English game:
44 Typhlosion
46 Ho-oh
42 Ampharos
44 Golduck
51 Electivire (Mystery Gift from Pokemon Battle Revolution, used scarcely)
98 Gallade (total non-battler used to catch wilds with False Swipe etc.; to save frustration against legendaries)

Though Lance's Dragonite should've been a huge issue for me with this team and without decent TMs, I wimped out and used Electivire's Ice Punch

Going to battle the E4 today, god damn, Clair's Kingdra demolished my team lol.

And Lugia was caught with only 5 ultraball attempts surprisingly. His sprite for following is HUGE I was sad when he couldn't be visible inside of buildings, would have been cool.

mY e4 tEAM:
Amphoros
Dewgong
Magmar
Mamoswine
Lugia
Arbok

I need to replace Mamoswine with a better psychic counter, sadly I evolved my one Eevee into Espeon so that's no good. Thinking of breeding Espeon to use another Eevee for an Umbreon as a Psychic counter and give it my Dark Pulse TM.

Oh and can I capture Ho-Oh in SS? I heard you could.

That is how it worked when I was trying to get entei and raikou  baddood; it was asleep, had 1 hp, and wouldn't be caught by like 30 ultra balls

This happened to me with Lugia, my first attempt, I only had 7 ultraballs on me and used Amphoros to weaken it to like 3 HP, it was paralyzed due to discharge's second ability and I wasted all seven ultra balls. Second attempt, he had more health, like 25, not paralyzed and after tossing like 5 ultra balls it was captured for some reason.

I almost used my Master Ball, but I am using that on Ho-Oh as a last resort. I never used my master ball in Pearl, not sure if I'll want to use this one either.

In Kanto can you do the gyms in any order (You do have all the HMs at this point) or are you restricted to a specific order?

Can you still catch Mewtwo in cerulean cave?

Any order that you wish, sir. I still haven't been to Pewter City where Brock is, but I beat Misty. I am also able to fight Lt. Surge, Sabrina (whatever the Psychics name is) and Erika though.

I just Google'd and they said he is still there and level 70. Multiple sites said this so I would say yes.

Mewtwo was never in the original Gold/Silver/Crystal. You had to trade for him as far as I'm aware... If it's true though I'm really surprised.

Also, I'm in Kanto now, I did the section up to Bill's house above Cerulean, haven't done anything else yet really. Surge is strong in comparison to my pokemon (He has level 50's, my team is Level 45, I struggled to beat Lance.) so I'm going to grind before I even think of challenging him as his Raichu raped my Ho-Oh in one Thunder Bolt. :(

I fucking love the Kanto trainer battle music after hearing the Johto one for so long now. Such a burst of fresh improv.

Does this shit actually happen? (The animation, not the battle.) or is it just fan art?

also the Red battle, in my opinion, is by far the most brilliant idea in any pokemon game. It's the main reason I prefer Gold/Silver over any other Pokemon game.

Yeah, in G/S/C  the cave was collapsed, but so far in Gen IV there has not been a legit way to get Mewtwo as far as I know, so this would be the only way to do it.

In kanto are all the gym leaders, trainers, and wild pokemon scaled in the 40s? So it isn't like the beginning of Johto, it's a continuation so they are all scaled up? So Brock won't have like a levl 10 onix in R/B/Y?

A bit late to note these things, but for Kanto:
Wilds are all at about the same level as they are in Firered/Leafgreen, so they're much lower than your pokemon.
Trainers all have higher-leveled pokemon, so you can actually get experience off them. Some of these Pokemon are from Hoenn or Sinnoh.
Most of the Kanto gym leaders have pokemon at slightly higher levels than your pokemon likely are, but they're not much trouble
Viridian Forest and Cerulean Cave with Mewtwo are back, but like G/S Pokemon Mansion, Pokemon Tower, Silph Co, and Celadon Underground are all inaccessible or gone and Mt. Moon is extremely tiny.

I don't think mine to too useful either.

It knows Extrasensory, Yawn, Metronome, and Headbutt.

I got my spinarak by where you first meet Prof. Oak and get the egg. and yes I do.

I bet spinarak is HG exclusive, I can't find one.

Could you catch another one?

I'll trade you for an SS exclusive. Or anything really.

A bit late to note these things, but for Kanto:
Wilds are all at about the same level as they are in Firered/Leafgreen, so they're much lower than your pokemon.

So my party currently consists of:
Level 10 Butterfree
Level 12 Pidgey
Level 12 Mareep
Level 15 Tododile

I have 4 hours logged because of massive idle. I just defeated the first gym leader and I'm about to go into a cave.

I hate not being able to control traded Pokemon. I would just trade in my pokemon from Diamond and just fly by D:

By the way in Diamond I have:
Larvitar
Gible
Alakazam
Gengar
Machamp
Golem
Staravia
Tortera
Luxio

It's hard to play two pokemon games at the same time.

this was pretty much my line up at the second gym, but change totadile for Quilava.

nearly everyone grabs a pidgey and a mareep. I grabbed a butterfree just because of sleep powder and psybeam/psychic/confusion later on in the game.

I didn't find Pidgey to be as effective in this game as it had in others. I kept switching bird Pokemon in this game for that reason. Right now, I'm using Lugia, but I also used a Murkrow for a while.

Okay, so I'm taking a different approach at getting Blue's number. It might be that you have to physically wait a whole day instead of fucking around with the time. Because I think the game has it's own built-in clock, or something along the line. Also, Buena is not renewing her password, which is pissing me off.

K, so I think I figured out what I was doing wrong with getting Blue's number.

Obviously since you can't fuck around with the time on the DS, you literally have to wait a whole day before Daisy can groom another Pokemon. And she won't groom your Pokemon on your approaching 3-4, you literally have to wait 24 hours for her to groom again. That's balls.

What moveset does it have, I almost bought a shiny stone after grinding the Power pokeathalon for 3000 points but I'm not buying it if I will never use togekiss

Also, not sure if anyone has posted an FC but you should edit the first post and make an FC list

Posting mine asap

BUUUUUUT. I have made better progress on the pokedex this go around. I've got like 50 pokemon. When was going through G/S/C at six years old, I only had like 15 by the time I beat Red. I didn't give a fuck about catchin pokemon. I had the ones I wanted.

Oh man, I hope you beat that clanwood bitch first.

he is much lower leveled so you can reap some exp off of his trainers and him.

I learned the hard way that you were supposd to beat him first, after losing to jasmine 300 times. My whole team was like in the 40s when I beat her, after I beat the clanwood gym leader.

Yeah, keeping all the levels even is difficult. I just trained a lapras up to 45 from a level 1 egg, took 3 full days training in caves, and that pond in Illex forest full of Psyducks/Golducks (GREAT for EV training Special Attack, nothing but ducks are there, 24/7)
Meanwhil I kept getting called for my Kingler egg.

The point of training the water pokemon: To defeat Brock. At level 45, with a level 56 Dewgong for backup, Lapras wiped up Brocks entire team with OHKs of Brine. Except for his random Omastar, I swapped lapras out with amphoros and finished it.

So now I am starting all over again to take on Misty.

Go back and forth when HOLY FUCKING SHIT GOLDEN MAGIKARP!

This is my second shiny EVER and both (the Zubat previously [now a delicious shiny crobat]) in SoulSilver. Did they up the encounter rate or am I getting extremely lucky?

I heard the shiny encounter rate is lowered by game time. I have 154 hours clocked in when I found the golden karp.

Oh and it kind of sucks because EVERYONE gets a shiny gyrados at the Lake of Rage :/

speaking of daycares, i dropped off a wooper and a ratatta and went to go check out goldenrod city, and before i knew it they already made me an egg. so i went to pick it up, and im halfway through the city and they'd already made another one. i remember breeding being much harder than this.

also voltorb flip is pretty much the greatest thing ever. ive clocked 9 hours so far, and at least 3 of those have been wasted playing that game. i cant ever get past level 5 either, so i dont get why i love it so much.

I just took out the Elite Four, and I wasn't at level 50, so you should be fine. Being underleveled makes things more exciting anyway.

My team:
Typhlosion lvl 40
Ampharos lvl 40
Gyarados lvl 40
Heracross lvl 39
Espeon lvl 40
Pupitar lvl 33

It took a little luck, namely with Bruno's Machamp and all of Lance's Dragonites. The only way I could kill Aerodactyl was by Focus Sash countering one of its attacks.

So, yeah, just get something that learns ice moves (I thought Delibird only learns Present?), and you'll be ok. Kadabra could probably take out both Koga and Bruno (My Espeon only knew Psybeam), and you could probably push your way through the other two. Put Choice Specs on Kadabra though, just in case (I think your Mom buys you one, either that or it's at the Lake of Rage). Meganium will be useless, you should get an electric instead to make Will easier and give your ice-type a backup in case it's too weak.

(I'm not a pokenerd I swear D: )

Oh and on the subject of ID bragging, mine is 48444.
Title: Re: Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver Discussion.
Post by: hobbit on August 09, 2010, 07:41:10 PM
meganium is my starter, so i can't abandone him. besides, he knows poison powder and lightscreen. dude can take a hit.

but yeah, my meganium (lvl 45)  killed lugia at least 10 times while i tried to catch it. he died only 3 times. lugia'son wind move took only about 1/3 of my meganium's health after i used light screen so really he's a solid investment.

i taught my delibird blizzard and fly. i mainly have him for lance.
Title: Re: Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver Discussion.
Post by: rdl on August 09, 2010, 07:46:22 PM
Does your Meganium know leech seed? You could murder pretty much all of their pokemons using that, but it would probably take forever.

Oddly enough Lance never Hyper Beamed me, I dunno if he even still has that. Go to the Indigo Plateau (lol i love that name), and save before you go in and try to see how far you can go. I'd stock up on Revives and Moo Moo Milk before you do it, but you might want to get Hyper Potions if you're already in the 200 range.

yeah i'm at lance and delibird was my main guy for killing his dragonites except i didn't realize delibird sucks ass and misses 4 times out of 10. i saved rightbefore i got there since i didn't struggle much with the other guys and thought, "well if the other guys were this easy lance won't be too hard". i don't think i'll be able to win :(
Title: Re: Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver Discussion.
Post by: rdl on August 11, 2010, 01:10:26 PM
Yeah Delibird is terrible. I just took my red gyarados and had him at level 40 for lance. he learns ice fang somewhere in the 30s, so that coupled with a nevermeltice did the trick, since gyarados has a massive attack stat. everything was a 2 hit ko, but had he not frozen some of the dragonites I probably would've lost.
Title: Re: Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver Discussion.
Post by: hobbit on August 11, 2010, 01:21:24 PM
gah. lance destroys me team. i should've looked online and seen what exactly his pokemon were so that i's have a good strategy for him. i thing delibird is cool but seriously he's worthless as a fighter. i don't have any other ice types so i just went with him. i'm saving my red gyarados because i want to ev train him.

GAAAHHHHHH

i'll fight him 5 more times and if i can't win i'll just give up and find a better icetype.

Hey, just a little reminder: August 31st the latest Pocket Pokedex book for GenIV is being released, containing tons of information over each pokemon, movesets, and everything.

At Amazon, you can pre-order/buy it for $10, which is 4 less than anywhere else.

Also free 2day shipping (day of release for pre-orders) with amazon Prime. If you already used the trial, if you go to college you can get a free year of amazon prime just by entering your school and major, I believe.
