QuoteNORTH HAVEN â,” A man who allegedly used a shotgun to try to get rid of a tree limb in his backyard has been arrested.

Antonio Chiaia, 74, of 9 Cricket Court, was arrested at his home Saturday morning after a neighbor reported he was discharging a shotgun in his yard, Capt. James Merrithew said.

Chiaia told police he could not reach the tree limb with a saw, so he was trying to remove it by shooting at it. The branch is still there, Merrithew said.

The gun, a double-barrel 12-gauge, was seized, and Chiaia was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and second-degree reckless endangerment. He is scheduled to appear July 16 in Superior Court in Meriden.

" Whatever you do, don't take away his gun. Because our forefathers died so we could shoot the limbs off of trees. "

I thought of Slim when I read that comment.  n_u

" At 74 he may be a bit off on his aim. Depending on the distance and thickness of the limb, the 12 gauge is an excellent choice provided he used bird shot. Although, perhaps he should have used a 12 gauge slug instead. If his nosey neighbors just got out there with their shotguns and helped him, there would have been no need to call the police. "

 lawlzos: so why are guns legal if we're not allowed to use them

Steve: but it has the potential [to kill/hurt] so it should be illegal
lawlzos: men have the potential to rape
lawlzos: they should be illegal

lawlzos: shotguns are a safer way to cut down tree limbs

so lawlz thinks sam's uncle's behavior is justified...LAWLZ HAS SPOKEN. DO NOT QUESTION.  THE POWER OF GOD

yeah it's really not that weird, but you have to remember I live in connecticut.

The funny thing about CT is that we have a bunch of ritzy towns and cities and then several farming towns. The comments calling him an idiot are all from places like North Haven (where he lives) and other towns like that. The rest are from places like North Branford where this wouldn't be an issue at all.

The reason I find the situation funny is that the neighbor was just chilling in her house when she heard the shotgun and called the cops because she thought my uncle was insane and had no idea what he was doing.

My uncle crashed his Fed Ex truck in a bridge on I-95 and it couldn't be removed for several hours. As you can imagine, that caused quite a ruckus. He died though, so we don't make fun of him.

my cousins down the street caused an uproar in my town when (oh god this story is too hard to explain) a black guy tried to kidnap his son from the house and murder my cousin/the boy's mother.

then my distant cousins who live behind me also caused a bit of a freak out after their double-suicide.

those stories are all kinda sad though.  doodhuh;
